Celebrations of the painter Sergey Paradzhanov's 80th birthday have
passed in Moscow. The memorial evening in Hadzhonkov house complemented
the state television and media were industriously concealing the fact of
his arrest in December 17, 1973
and the imprisonment in February 1974. He was convicted of «forcible
buggery» (criminal code article 122.1, 122.2 of the Ukrainian SSR).
In the ITAR-TASS anniversary message nothing was said about the great
director's life tragedy. The «Russia» TV channel has lied, alleging that
Paradzhanov was convicted of icon traffic.
Harboring the real causes of his imprisonment is alarming. It resembles
the sinister concealment of the motives of
destruction of the billions of soviet citizens in the soviet biographic
reference books in the late 1930s, the years of Stalin's terror.
It is indicative that by now only Roman Balayan (Paradzhanov's friend)
dared to openly discuss the «bisexuality» of the artist.
